Daredevil is also known as Marvel’s Daredevil, and Drew Goddard created the American web television series for Netflix. It is naturally based on Daredevil, the character from Marvel Comics. Goddard acts as the consultant for the series and Steven S. DeKnight functions as the showrunner on the first season. The showrunners of the second season will be Marco Ramirez and Doug Petrie. Daredevil is produced by Marvel Television in association with Goddard Textiles, DeKnight Prods, And ABC studios. Daredevil began to be developed late in 2013, and Goddard was hired in December of the same year. DeKnight replaced Goddard as showrunner and filming began in July of 2014 in New York City. The first season premiered on April 10th, 2015. Netflix and Marvel Renewed the series for a second season on April 21st, 2015, which is scheduled to premiere in 2016.daredevil The cast of Daredevil is comprised of Charlie Cox who stars as Matt Murdock/Daredevil; Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page; Ayelet Zurer Vanessa Marianna; Elden Hensen as Franklin “Foggy” Nelson; Rosario Dawson Claire Temple; Vondie Curtis-Hall as Ben Urich; Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk; and Bob Gunton as Leland Owlsley.

The central character Matt Murdock was blinded as a boy during a tragic accident. Although he can no longer see, it wasn’t all bad for Matt, because his other senses were significantly heightened. During the day Matt Murdock is a respected lawyer who dutifully fights injustice, but by night he is a masked vigilante defending New York City’s streets.

Daredevil strikingly resembles Batman Begins, but this is a norm for superhero stories. There are several different ways in which the two share similarities, one of which is the first action scene which transpires on a shipping dock. The original Daredevil of Marvel’s comics begins in a very simple black outfit and then as time goes on he moves to his trademark red attire. In the new TV series, however, viewers can expect to see this red outfit earlier than they’d first imagined. More is found out about Karen Page’s back-story than Matt’s in the very first episode. Another interesting tidbit about the new series is that there are a lot of references to the Avengers. Characters in Daredevil talk about “The Incident” referring to New York City’s alien invasion.

Up to this point Daredevil has been received considerably well according to Rotten Tomatoes, which gives it a 97% approval rating and IMDb which gives it 9.2/10 stars. One reviewer points out the fact that Daredevil always has good luck with writers because of the characters and elements which it embodies. Fans say that Daredevil strikes the perfect balance and many compliments are given to Charlie Cox for his portrayal of Matt Murdock and Daredevil. There are almost countless positive reviews giving enthusiastic feedback about the new show. What few critics there were talked about the violence, saying it is overwhelming and abysmal. They claim the acting doesn’t meet expectations, nor the writing or plot. Negative reviews are significantly few and far between, however, hinting at great promise for Daredevil. Was Eddie Redmayne’s Performance in Jupiter Ascending Awful or Brilliant?

Eddie Redmayne is getting most of his buzz this year for his critically acclaimed, award-winning and Academy Award nominated performance as Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything.

But there is another film and performance generating some buzz around the actor—his performance in the sci-fi fantasy film, Jupiter Ascending, which stars Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum. The film first gained notice when its release date was moved from a coveted summer blockbuster spot to a dreaded February release, often called a month where “films go to die.” In addition to moving the release date, it was discovered that more than an hour of material was ultimately cut from the film. These cuts probably had a negative impact on the film in the long run—as most of the criticisms about the newly released movie are that the storyline is not fleshed out and too many things are left unexplained.
There is one performance in the film that has been gaining attention: Eddie Redmayne’s. In the film, Redmayne plays Lord Balem, a space royal who owns the Earth and will stop at nothing to keep it from getting into the hands of Mila Kunis’s character, Jupiter. Redmayne’s performance has been described as many things—awful, hilarious, and even “the only quality performance in the film.”
The character of Lord Balem is a far cry from any role that Redmayne has played before. He is always glad in a long leather outfit, talks in a Voldemort-like whisper or alternatively in a booming screaming voice, and his motivations are murky at best. He killed his mother but sometimes appears to regret it—though he is willing to destroy the Earth before he lets Jupiter, the reincarnation of his mother, inherit it.
The division about the quality of Redmayne’s performance may lie in the genre of the film. Science fiction and fantasy films are often considered childish or “not Oscar worthy,” regardless of the actual quality of the performances. There is a perception that science fiction and fantasy films are not serious films—even though some of the most successful movies of all time have been in the genre.

Redmayne does manage to emote more than other members of the cast in Jupiter Ascending. And there is something to be said of the almost 90 minutes of missing footage, which may have given the actor—and the film—more to work with. Find other entertainment options here.

Why You Should Watch Jolie’s Unbroken

unbrokenAngelina Jolie’s Unbroken has already had several special premieres, although it will not be set for a wide release in the United States until Christmas Day, 2014. The film is garnering mixed but mostly positive reviews, with more reviewers noting that the film drags a bit in the beginning but picks up the pace—and the tension–towards the middle and the end. Reviewers are also praising the performances in the film, calling them emotional, gut-wrenching, and realistic. If you still aren’t planning on catching this upcoming period war film, consider the following reasons why you should see Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken in theaters. It’s based on an interesting and true story The film is based on the true story of Louis Zamperini, a former American air force lieutenant who was captured by Japanese soldiers after his plane went down in the Pacific Ocean. But Zamperini’s story is so much more complex than a simple prisoner of war story. After his plane went down, the survivors–Zamperini and two of his crewmates–survived on a raft for 47 days. They were forced to capture rainwater for drinking water and eat any animals they could get their hands on, which included raw fish and even albatrosses; they also had to deal with the dangers of storms and shark attacks. The raft reached land after 47 days, but they were immediately taken prisoner by Japanese soldiers. Zamperini was sent to various Japanese prisoner of war camps, where he—like the rest of the prisoners—dealt with brutal conditions that included very small rations, forced labor, and beatings. He survived and returned home to a hero’s welcome. It’s been a long time in the making Universal Pictures actually secured the rights to make a movie based on the life of Louis Zamperini in 1957—but it has taken many decades for the film to finally come to fruition. Various directors, writers, and actors have been attached to the project since the 1950s. It was not until the great commercial success of Laura Hillenbrand’s book, Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption that they finally pushed through with the project. The real Louis Zamperini died at the age of 97. He was able to provide some consultation during the production of the film, and Angelina Jolie says that he was a great inspiration during their meetings together.Don’t miss this incredible and inspiring movie Unbroken.
